Children of the Light

I like the subject of light.  It is so easy to understand.  We have good and evil, Spiritual and carnal, Godly and ungodly, Jesus and Satan and light and darkness.  In the Biblical world there is no grey.  Either a thing or action is of God or for God or it is of the Devil against God.  Stealing is a sin.  Having sex outside of the marriage union is a sin.  To hate or kill a fellow human is a sin.  Jesus was very plain when he taught about good and evil.  So here we now will talk about light which might also be “The Light”.

Jesus came into the world, at the incarnation, for two reasons.  He needed to show us the way to grace rather than the law and He needed to give Himself up for a sacrifice for our salvation.  We have Him for an example as to what manner of conduct we should exercise on this earth. John records in 12:46 that Jesus said, "I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.”  When we receive Him as our savior He makes us the light of the world.  As such we are to bring others to Him, the Light, so they will be saved also.  Mt 5:14 Ye are the light of the world.  A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  While on this earth followers of Jesus are to be (1Th 5:5) “the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.”  And (1Jo 1:7) “if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

It is necessary to be in the word, the Bible, and know what it says.  Be sure to test the spirits so you won’t be deceived or fooled.  We read in I John 4:1, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  2  By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;  3  and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God; this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world.”  (2Co 11:14) “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”  Don’t follow someone just because he seems to be doing miracles or supernatural things.

In the end we will live with Jesus the Lamb and He will be our Light.  This is prophesied in Isaiah and in chapter 21 of the Revelation.  Isaiah 60:19-20 “No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And your God for your glory.  Your sun will no longer set, Nor will your moon wane; For you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And the days of your mourning will be over.”  With Jesus as the light of the New Jerusalem there will be no shadows.  Just as God is omnipresent so will His light be.  To have a shadow there must be an absence of light.  If Jesus is the light there will be no place where the light does not shine, therefore there can not be any shadows there.  We were visiting with Mic Parr this weekend and were discussing this aspect of the New Jerusalem.  He came up with a profound statement concerning our walk here on this earth, “If you can see your own shadow…Turn around.”

Now remember “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (James 1:17) So walk with Him!

If it is not for Jesus…It is for nothing.

An Interview With God

HANDY LITTLE CHART

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering.
