The Pony Express Riders are back on the Road to the Cure and looking new recruits to join their ranks!  Not content to rest on their laurels, having already raised $2,145,925 towards the eradication of breast cancer, these Peaceful Warriors are once again out pounding the pavement on two wheels to raise more funds.  Now, more than ever, as new cures lie on the horizon, the Pony Express Riders know they can’t give up the fight against a monster that is still claiming over 40,000 American lives a year and delivering over 285,000 Americans a new diagnosis of breast cancer annually.

Pony Express Ride 2007 takes place from September 17-September 22, 2007 in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  For five days, the Roads to a Cure will take riders through covered bridges, along the Feather River Canyon, over to Lake Tahoe, and to some great, quaint mining towns
which retain the flavor of the Gold Rush Days.

At the end of each day, riders return to Lake Frances Resort in Dobbins, CA. This camping resort will be set aside exclusively for use by the Pony Express Riders where we will build a community of hope. The Riders will back up their confidence that the cures for breast cancer can and will be found by actively riding on behalf of their sponsors, educating themselves on the issues, and raising awareness around this devastating disease. The Pony Express Riders are committed to taking breast cancer to task until it has been put into the history books forever.

Pony Express Ride 2007 – The Bracelin/Bratcher 1000 honors and memorializes the courage and tenacity shown by two of its most dedicated Pony Express Riders.  Bill Bracelin succumbed to breast cancer, on September 11, 2005, after a 14 yearlong battle. Bill fought fiercely for his life.  However, he fought even harder for the lives of others.  Bill signed on as a Pony Express Rider for the ’96 tour and never looked back.  As a male breast cancer survivor, Bill was particularly interested in spreading word that men too can fall victim to the disease and that men have a much higher per capita death rate, generally believed due to the lack of an early diagnosis.

Dotty Bratcher, a die-hard Pony Express Rider who rode regardless of the distance or the weather, remained totally undaunted when diagnosed in stage IV breast cancer. Dotty petitioned, cajoled, out-talked, and pushed her way into every clinical trial from which she felt she could benefit.  Dotty's courage and tenacity won her five additional years of quality living.  Moreover, Dotty served as a role model to other survivors and their families as to how to seek and receive the best that our researchers, oncologists, and surgeons have to offer.
